Our teachers: Antonella and Irma, our first teachers, who have been teaching Italian to foreigners in the Foggia area for 10 years. They have been joined over time by Eugenio, Luigia, Mr. Francis (Francesco, but since he teaches English...), Davide and Giusy .
Omar, Yaya and Lamin, were our first cultural mediators; they arrived in Italy several years ago and speak no less than 6 African languages! When we struggle to explain ourselves to lÉ™ studentÉ™ they are the ones who come to our rescue.Â
They come and go from the school along with others based on their other jobs, but always ensuring that we have a hand during class.
Maddalena is our project manager and holds together the thousands of pieces and people that make up Fatoma School.
Gaia is great at writing announcements and is helping us make sure that the school can sustain itself while weighing as little as possible on donors' shoulders.
Giacomo, Olmo, Marco, Cosimo, and Carlo are in charge of video, communication, and school resource management.
Martina and Francis designed the site you see, and James P. developed it.
There is also Will Media, which supports the school through "One Day One Day" proceeds and by providing its platform of more than 2 million people to spread the word.
CGIL's Magdalena helps us by providing us with their Borgo Mezzanone location where we hold classes. This is crucial because it allows students not to have to make an hour-long trip after work just to be able to study.
Dina, a teacher at the Borgo school, who helped us find another location when the enrollment in just one course had become too many, and who invaluably connects us to the other realities that have life in the area.
Don Vito of the Association "Community on the Road to Emmaus," who generously hosts the Milan team on each trip, as well as providing space and time for the implementation of many initiatives even within the community he runs.
There are the Borgo families, Father Abel from the parish, Michele and the parents of all the young and old children who attend the school's activities complementary to Italian, such as the recreational English class on Saturday mornings, initiatives born out of the needs of the borough.
Thanks to the ACT-Apirare.Coinvolgere.Trasform grant funded by UNIPOLIS Foundation, Fatoma School in collaboration with Solidaunia for the year 2025 will support three Pre A1 Italian courses, art-recreational activities, and a medical clinic.Â
In collaboration with other entities in the area, the Confraternity of Mercy and the Pro Loco of Borgo Mezzanone, and thanks to funding from the Municipality of Manfredonia deriving from PNRR funds, it will be possible to open a social hub with basic community services and an Italian language literacy course.
With the financial support of Chico Mendes Altromercato, the Association has been organizing A2-level Italian language exam preparation sessions for the past year and supporting students' registration costs.
